  • August 24, 2019
    4:30 am - 8:30 am

Let’s Meet Up Saturday Aug 24 for a Sunrise Yoga Hike at Poo Poo Point (Chirico Trail)

Hike: “Intermediate/hard” 3.6 miles (round-trip) with steady elevation gain (~1,700 ft in 1.8 miles up)

Yoga: 60 minute all-levels Vinyasa yoga practice

Date/Time: Saturday, August 4:30am – 8:30am

Age Recommendation: 10 years+

Rise and shine for yoga in the great outdoors! Let’s watch the sun come up together on the top of a mountain.

We’ll gather at the Poo Poo Point Chirico trailhead parking lot at 4:30am (I’ll bring coffee and tea. to share!). At 4:45am we’ll hike together to the first clearing/viewpoint, apx 1.6 miles from the trailhead. We’ll set up our yoga mats at the first large clearing (facing Mt. Rainier). Sunrise is at 6:16am, we’ll aim to be at the top by this time.

The total hike is 3.2 miles round-trip with ~1700 ft. elevation gain (“short and very steep”), with an optional 1/2 mile more to the second/main viewpoint. As needed, we will break into smaller groups to respect the trail and support different paces.

At the clearing we’ll have a professionally-led 60 minute slow-flow Vinyasa yoga practice, focusing on strengthening, stretching, breathing, and connecting to nature. The yoga practice is all-levels – designed for beginner and experienced yogis alike! With any luck, we’ll enjoy sunrise views of Mt. Rainier from the top.

After our yoga session, we’ll hike back down and enjoy more tea/coffee/breakfast goodies before heading out.

Space is limited to 35 participants. The suggested meet up fee goes toward meet up organization/community and yoga instruction, with 5% of proceeds donated to Washington Trail Association. The suggested meet up fee is just that – a suggestion! I believe strongly in outdoors and yoga for all. If the cost is a barrier in anyway, please sign up under the “community/scholarship” option (no questions asked). We’ll meet up rain or shine. In severe/unsafe weather, I will reschedule the meet up and/or offer a yoga credit (or refund) to all participants. If raining, we’ll move the yoga class under the forest canopy (which will add about a 1/2 mile to the hike).

What to Bring: Your own yoga mat (and optional strap or yoga bag to carry it during hike), a flashlight/headlamp, a towel (for under or over your mat, especially if it’s a little wet out), hiking shoes, clothes comfortable for hiking and yoga (layers highly recommended), water, and any additional lunch or snacks. More tips on what to bring will be emailed out to registered participants prior to the event.

I am a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT® 200), passionate about combining community, yoga, and the outdoors. I look forward to hosting several yoga hike meet-ups this spring, summer, and fall. When not in the mountains, you can find me teaching at local yoga studios around the Seattle, Eastside, and Everett areas.

All meet up attendees are required to sign a waiver to participate. The hike meet up and yoga class are at your own risk. The hike is not a guided hike, we will simply meet up and hike together to the yoga location. Waivers will be emailed to registered participants, or available day-of to sign.
